Today's (Wednesday 29th November) admission by the Liberal Democrat Council that they made mistakes in budgeting for Cardiff's social services comes as no surprise says local councillor and Welsh Assembly candidate Sophie Howe.
Labour Group Deputy Leader and Cardiff North Assembly Candidate Sophie Howe said,
"This Lib Dem Council has shown time and time again that it does not know how to manage the budget's for our city's most important services. It cannot blame the Welsh Assembly for its inability to run the Council.
"The Lib Dem's failure to manage Cardiff's budgets is putting social services at risk. Services for people with learning disabilities and meals on wheels are all in danger of cutbacks as the Council attempts to sort out its money problems.
"What's worse is that the Council is not telling us how these cutbacks and overspends will impact on other services across the City. People are already seeing that their roads are not being swept, the play areas are being pulled out and the service they are getting from the Council is deteriorating.
"And all the while, this failing Lib Dem Council is being propped up by an unholy alliance with the Tories. Tory councillors rescued them from a vote of no confidence and recently helped them push through cuts in learning disability services.
"By propping up this failing administration - the Tories are guilty of failing the people of Cardiff.
