I am the Labour Party Assembly Candidate for Cardiff North. I am also a local Councillor in the constituency and have represented Whitchurch and Tongwynlais on Cardiff County Council since 1999. I am Deputy Leader of the Labour Group on the Council.
I live in Whitchurch and am married to Ceri, a Graphic Designer and have three children, Morgan aged 6, Finley aged 3 and Jude who was born in March this year.
I attended Llanishen Fach Primary School in Rhiwbina and then went on to Whitchurch High School. I left school in 1996 and went on to Cardiff University where I obtained a degree in Law and Politics.
After gradulating form University I worked as a Research/Casework Assistant for both Julie Morgan MP and Sue Essex AM. I am currently employed as the Legal Services Manager at the Equal Opportunities Commission in Wales, where I manage the Legal Department and helpline, work with other lawyers, trade unions and Citizens Advice Bureaux Advisors and assist individuals who have suffered unlawful discrimination in accessing justice.
I have been a member of the Labour Party since I was 16 and have a strong commitment to equality and social justice.
I have a an interest in issues affecting families and children and during my time as a Councillor have also developed an interest in planning and community regeneration.
I am a member of the Council's Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee, a Member of the Management Board of the Cardiff Women's Workshop, a School Governor on two primary Schools. I have previously held the position of Non-Executive Director on Cardiff Local Health Board
I am committed to working hard for the people of Cardiff North both in representing them on local issues and improving things in their area and in representing their best interests at a National level.
Most of my free time is spent with the family, often ferrying the children around to various activities. When I do have some spare time I like to get into a good book and I enjoy food - both cooking and eating out.
